Nationwide Salary Survey Published

A nationwide salary survey among financial staff in solicitor’s offices shows wide regional variations with some roles commanding double the salary in a north/south split.  The survey, conducted by the Legal Support Network and supported by the Institute of Legal Cashiers & Administrators, divides the country into three regions - London, South, Midlands/North – and identifies 21 different job titles from Office Assistant to Practice Director.

David Sparkes, managing director of LSN, says, “In January this year we set out to conduct a nationwide salary survey into earnings among Legal Finance/Accounts - Finance Systems & Legal Costs staff.  It was clear from the outset that this was an ambitious project and one that will require work in progress.  However, we received a great deal of support from the ILCA who allowed us to poll their 2,800-strong membership for input into our survey.  Recent weeks have seen much media coverage about salary increases for Lawyers and Associates off the back of another strong year of financial results which have seen firms battle to retain their highest performing staff in a fiercely competitive market.  We have discovered that the emphasis on rewarding and retaining key personnel is no longer the privilege of just Lawyers and Associates.  Salary increments in recent years have indicated the trend continues to filter out to professional support staff, and in a field where a mix of industry experience, regulatory and compliance knowledge plus exposure to specific technology systems all add value to the employee, it comes as no surprise to see salaries on the increase again.”
