CHANGES TO SOLICITORS CODE of CONDUCT
Rule 2 of the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct was amended on 11 August 2009 to protect clients following the repeal of the Solicitors’ (Non-Contentious Business) Remuneration Order 1994 which removed the remuneration certificate procedure and clients’ statutory rights to information about challenging a bill. "Emergency rule" 2.08 was inserted as a temporary measure. At the same time, guidance note 48 was amended, and guidance note 49A was inserted.

These changes are in force from 11 August 2009 to 28 February 2010.

Changes to Rule 2.05 will come into force on 1 March 2010 which will replace Emergency Rule 2.08 which will be removed from the Code.
